The Israeli army has urgently turned to the United States for new technologies to combat Hezbollah’s drones. The decision was made after a series of successful kamikaze drone attacks on military positions in the north of the country, reports Anadolu.
Hezbollah is increasingly attacking Israeli soldiers with FPV drones, and defenses against drones are insufficient. Commander of the Ground Forces, Major General Nadav Lotan, will visit the US in the coming days. He will personally oversee the procurement of counter-UAV equipment.
Senior army officials stated that there are no budget constraints on efforts to counter the attacks. The military is ready to spend any amount to ensure the safety of its soldiers.
The IDF is trying to improve its warning systems. The new detection devices are intended to operate on the principle of anti-tank missile warning systems, giving soldiers precious seconds to find cover.
The Lebanese group has begun acting more aggressively, the agency notes. The day before, at least six drones breached Israeli airspace, with some of them exploding directly on military installations.
Over the past 24 hours, the shelling has not stopped. Hezbollah is launching explosive drones both at forces inside Israel and at troops in southern Lebanon.
What else is known about the confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah
The IDF has begun actively establishing mini-air force units that will take part in operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Israeli military is currently studying the experience of drone operators from Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah fighters have increasingly been using drones to attack Israeli soldiers and their equipment. Recently, the group reported 12 attacks on IDF military infrastructure.
Attacks on Iron Dome system components have become more frequent. Moreover, this is not the first time Hezbollah has attacked valuable anti-missile systems with simple drones. Just two weeks ago, the militants announced a successful attack.
