Israel informs US that it's responsible for assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
Israel promptly informed the US after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, claiming responsibility for the act, according to The Washington Post.
Members of President Joe Biden's administration were furious over Israel's decision to eliminate Haniyeh. They feared this move could undermine months of delicate ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
The newspaper also reports that US officials are frustrated by Israel's lack of communication before launching other operations targeting Hezbollah or Iranian commanders.
Additionally, an Israeli official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that a phone call between Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week, following Haniyeh's death, was indeed tense.
Despite this, according to several individuals familiar with the internal discussions, there are no signs that Biden is prepared to exert significant pressure on Israel to rein in its actions, such as conditioning or limiting military aid.
