Israel eliminates leader of Hamas military wing - CNN
The leader of Hamas' military wing was killed in Lebanon. It happened during an Israeli air strike near Tripoli, the northernmost city in Lebanon, reports CNN.
The paper cites a joint statement, in which the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli intelligence agency Shin Bet said they killed Saeed Atallah Ali, “a senior member of (the) Hamas Military Wing in Lebanon,” who they claimed “carried out terrorist attacks against Israeli targets and worked to recruit Hamas operatives inside Lebanon.”
It is believed that Israeli strikes were mainly concentrated in the south of the country and on Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut.
Hamas has confirmed the death of Atallah Ali, whom it called the leader of the Lebanese branch of its military wing, the al-Qassam Brigade.
Israel's fighting against Hamas in Gaza has been going on for almost a year. It began after Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Hezbollah and Israel have been constantly exchanging blows, but this fall the situation has escalated significantly. One of the reasons was the strike on Beirut in late September, which killed longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
After a series of attacks, Israel launched a ground operation in Lebanon, but airstrikes continued.
RBC-Ukraine also wrote that Israel could have eliminated the new leader of Hezbollah by striking Beirut.
