US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran have agreed to a full ceasefire, set to begin within 24 hours, according to Trump’s post on the social media platform Truth Social.

"It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE," the post reads.

Trump clarified that the ceasefire is to begin approximately six hours after both countries complete their final missions. It will last for 12 hours, after which the war will be considered over.

"Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World," Trump wrote.

He emphasized that during the ceasefire, both sides will remain peaceful and respectful.

"On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end what should be called THE 12 DAY WAR," the US president added.

According to Trump, the war could have lasted for years and destroyed the entire Middle East, "but it didn’t - and it never will."

"God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD," the American leader concluded.

Background

On the night of June 13, Israel began striking Iran’s nuclear and military facilities. Several dozen top Iranian commanders, including high-ranking officials, were reportedly eliminated.

Since then, the two countries have been exchanging strikes daily. The key question remained whether the US would join the conflict.

Soon after, during the night of June 22, US forces carried out airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan using bunker-busting bombs, which are exclusively in the possession of the US military.

In response, on June 23, Iran attacked the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US installation in the Middle East.

Trump reacted to the Iranian strike by calling it a very weak response. He stated that there were no casualties and almost no damage. He also thanked Iran for providing advance notice of the attack.
