Israel aims to launch global campaign to assassinate Hamas leaders, reports say
Israel plans to hunt down leaders of Hamas worldwide after the hostilities in the Gaza Strip end, according to The Times of Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed intelligence agencies to develop a plan to eliminate Hamas leaders outside the Gaza Strip, who reside in Türkiye, Qatar, or other countries.
In the 1970s, Israel initiated a years-long campaign to eliminate Palestinian terrorists involved in the Munich Olympics attack.
Some urged Israel to immediately eliminate Hamas leader Khaled Meshal after the militants' attack on October 7. However, doing that in Qatar or Türkiye could complicate diplomatic efforts to release hostages, leading to the rejection of the idea.
Netanyahu hinted at plans to eliminate Hamas leaders worldwide during an address in November, causing anger among those who believe such plans should be kept secret.
War in Israel
On October 7, Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing and kidnapping both military and civilians. Israel was regularly shelled from the Gaza Strip. In response, Jerusalem launched operations against terrorists and conducted offensive activities in the Gaza Strip.
A temporary ceasefire began on November 24 between Israel and Hamas. The parties agreed to a four-day ceasefire but extended it for an additional two days on the condition that militants release more hostages.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu assured that Israel would continue military operations in the Gaza Strip after the return of the hostages.
