A Russian victory in the war in Iran is not in the interests of the United States. Its economy is growing thanks to the conflict in the Middle East, says German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil.
"It's not in our interest and it cannot be in the interest of the United States," he emphasizes.
Klingbeil stresses that the Russian economy is growing thanks to the conflict in the Middle East and is profiting from the situation in the energy sector.
Middle East conflict ending
The two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, brokered by Pakistan, proved fragile.
Negotiations in Islamabad on a permanent end to the war collapsed due to Tehran's refusal to meet key demands, to abandon its nuclear program, and cease support for proxy forces.
Following this, US President Donald Trump announced a naval blockade of Iranian ports, set to begin on April 13. At the same time, the United Kingdom stated that it would not participate in the blockade, citing its own objectives.
The US and Iran are engaged in active consultations regarding a new round of negotiations to end the war, which could take place as early as April 16. Islamabad and Geneva are being considered as possible venues, but a final decision on the meeting location has not yet been made.
Iran has demanded compensation from five Arab countries, suspecting them of involvement in the US-Israeli military operation, and accused them of aiding aggression and violating international law.
On April 15, Donald Trump stated that the war in Iran was nearing its end.
