Iran has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, calling on the organization to recognize Israel and the United States as guilty in the recent 12-day war, The Guardian reports.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote the corresponding letter. In addition to demanding that Israel and the United States be recognized as responsible for the war, Iran calls for the payment of compensation and reparations.

"We officially request hereby that the security council recognize the Israeli regime and the United States as the initiators of the act of aggression and acknowledge their subsequent responsibility, including the payment of compensation and reparations," the statement says.

What precedes this

On the night of June 13, Israel began attacking Iran, targeting its nuclear and military facilities, defense systems, senior military officials, and nuclear scientists.

Then, on the night of June 22, the United States carried out its own operation, striking three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

Soon, US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran's nuclear program had been completely destroyed. At the same time, a number of media outlets, citing American intelligence, wrote that this was not entirely the case.

For its part, Israel's attacks led to the countries regularly exchanging shellings, while the US strikes prompted Tehran to launch missiles at an American military base in Qatar.

Soon, the media reported that the United States would not respond to this attack, and already on June 24, Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a complete ceasefire. On the same day, the truce took effect and the 12-day war ended.
