Peace talks between Iran and the United States have collapsed due to "gap between our opinions over two or three important issues," according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, as reported by Sky News.

"Ultimately the talks didn't result in an agreement," Baghaei said in an interview with Iranian state television.

He did not specify what the issues were.

The spokesperson noted that on some matters, US and Iranian negotiators had "actually reached mutual understanding."

According to Baghaei, they discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, although he did not say whether nuclear weapons were part of the talks.

US and Iran fail to reach agreement

As a reminder, US Vice President JD Vance said that after 21 hours of talks, the US and Iran still failed to reach a peace agreement. As a result, the American delegation is returning to Washington without a final document.

According to Vance, after hours of negotiations, Iran still has not committed to abandoning the development of nuclear weapons.

A day before the talks, US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be opened regardless of whether Iran agreed to cooperate, and that the key issue would be the nuclear question. In particular, he said the deal would be successful if Tehran committed not to possess nuclear weapons.

Trump also said he did not care whether there would be a deal or not. According to him, the US is winning either way.
