Iran's new president to attend BRICS summit in Russia
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will attend the BRICS summit in Russia in October, where he is scheduled to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, according to Tehran's ambassador in Moscow.
Pezeshkian is set to meet Putin in Kazan from October 22-24. According to media reports, they may sign a bilateral cooperation agreement.
Iranian missiles for Russia's war
The planned visit comes amid increasing military cooperation between the two countries. Iran recently delivered another batch of weapons to Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Russia has acquired ballistic missiles from Iran and will likely deploy them in Ukraine within weeks.
Blinken further added that the deepening ties between Moscow and Tehran pose a threat to European security as a whole.
On September 10, the US, Germany, the UK, and France responded by imposing new sanctions on Iran, including measures targeting the country's national airline, Iran Air.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied the supply of ballistic missiles to Russia.
It was previously reported that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is also expected to attend the BRICS summit in Russia.
