Iran launched rockets toward Israel on the morning of June 22 in response to a nighttime attack carried out by the United States and the IDF, according to the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

"A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat," the Israeli military said.

The IDF has warned the public to head to bomb shelters upon receiving alerts and remain there until further notice.

"Leaving the protected space is only permitted following an explicit directive. Continue to follow the instructions of the Home Front Command," the IDF concluded.

Notably, rocket sirens sounded in many areas across Israel, including central regions.

The attack came amid threats from Iran. Earlier, Tehran had warned of "long-term consequences" in response to strikes by Israel and the US.

"At this time, the IAF is operating to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat. The defense is not hermetic, therefore, it is essential to continue following the instructions of the Home Front Command," the Israeli military added.

US strike on Iran on June 22

As a reminder, on June 13, Israel launched the Rising Lion operation, targeting Iran’s nuclear and military facilities. Several commanders and nuclear scientists were eliminated.

In response, Iran began striking Israel. Due to the escalation, several countries urged their citizens to evacuate from both Israel and Iran.

In the early hours of June 22, the United States attacked Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. US President Donald Trump promised that American forces would continue to carry out strikes unless Tehran agrees to negotiations on a new nuclear deal.

As a precaution, Israel closed its airspace for security reasons.
