Iran is ready to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. The main conditions for this are an end to US military pressure and the lifting of the blockade around port areas, according to Reuters.
The Iranian delegation is currently in New York for the UN General Assembly and has the authority to resume contacts with the United States.
"The US needs to announce that it wants to resolve the issue diplomatically, make that official, and then agree on a timeline for how the process will move forward," an Iranian representative said.
Tehran’s official proposal for a cessation of hostilities was conveyed to the US side through intermediaries as early as September 16.
The parties expect to discuss the details of a potential agreement during meetings in New York involving international mediators.
Threat of escalation and the president’s visit
At the same time, Iran’s Central Command said it had received information about US preparations to resume military operations with the support of countries in the region. Tehran has already warned that it is ready to respond to any military action.
Against this backdrop, Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian flew to New York on Tuesday. His meeting with US President Donald Trump at UN headquarters is not currently planned, but the Iranian side emphasizes its readiness to return to diplomacy if Washington takes concrete steps toward reaching an agreement.
It was previously reported that the United States plans to maintain its military presence in the Middle East at a level that would allow it to resume hostilities if necessary. At the same time, Washington needs to determine its further strategy toward Iran.
According to CNN, Russian reconnaissance satellites may have provided Iran with data that helped it carry out more precise strikes on US facilities.
