Iran launched missile strikes on Iraqi Kurdistan, housing the U.S. consulate
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran launched a series of strikes on the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, according to ABC News and Reuters.
Reports indicate that the strikes targeted eight locations near the U.S. consulate. Shortly thereafter, Erbil Airport ceased operations following a very intense bombardment. Several explosions were also reported near the U.S. consulate. According to ABC, there are no reported casualties among U.S. military personnel.
According to Reuters, the explosions were also heard approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Erbil.
As a result of the shelling of the city of Erbil, at least four people have been reported dead. ABC sources also claim that three unidentified drones were shot down over the city.
In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran stated that it conducted a series of strikes on a spy headquarters and a gathering of anti-Iranian terrorist groups.
