Iran has declared victory over the US, as the latter failed to overthrow the regime or secure support from other countries to control the Strait of Hormuz, states Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
According to Ghalibaf, the ceasefire is a victory for his country because the US failed to overthrow the regime or secure support from other nations to control the Strait of Hormuz.
"When the enemy fails to achieve its objectives, it means it has been defeated," he stated.
The Iranian parliament speaker also noted that the US and Israel not only failed to overthrow the Iranian government but also suffered a setback on the international stage when allies refused to help Washington in the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, Ghalibaf acknowledged the economic and military superiority of the adversaries.
"We have not destroyed the enemy; they still have money and weapons, but strategically, they have been defeated compared to us," he said.
Current US-Iran relations
A ceasefire is currently in place between Iran and the US as the countries attempt to negotiate a deal. It is expected to continue for several more weeks after its term expires.
At the same time, Trump recently stated that an agreement with Tehran is very close and that Iran is ready to make many concessions regarding its nuclear program. However, Tehran has refuted the White House chief's claims.
Tehran has also once again blocked the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Washington of piracy due to the naval blockade of tankers heading to or from Iranian ports.
