iPhone 17 Pro offers a noticeably improved camera compared to previous models, such as the iPhone 16 Pro. However, an official Apple support document confirms that one feature of the Camera app has been removed: Night mode is no longer available when shooting in Portrait mode, according to the specialized source 9to5Mac.
Night mode missing in Portrait mode
Every year, Apple updates the iPhone camera capabilities, and the iPhone 17 Pro is no exception. The smartphone received a new front-facing Center Stage camera, a triple 48MP Fusion camera system on the back, and numerous new software features, including Dual Capture.
However, users have noticed the removal of one feature: Night mode is no longer available in Portrait mode. The Portrait mode has long been popular, and Night mode ensures high-quality photos in low-light conditions.
According to Apple’s official support document, the list of compatible models where Night mode in Portrait mode is available includes:
-
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
-
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
-
iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max
-
iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max
-
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max
Notably, this feature has been available on all Pro models since 2020, but has suddenly disappeared on the iPhone 17 Pro. It is possible that if users express dissatisfaction, Apple may restore it in a future software update.
At the same time, active Portrait mode users should be aware that functionality may be reduced when switching to the iPhone 17 Pro.
