Instagram is updating its messaging system, adding new tools to compete with iMessage and other services, reports Engadget.

Details of the update

The first innovation was music sharing. Now users can share tracks both in private messages and in group chats. To do this, open the sticker bar and select the Music option.

A search bar for the Instagram audio library will then appear. However, there are a few restrictions: the song must be available on Instagram, and the maximum length of the audio fragment is 30 seconds.

A translation tool that supports 99 languages will also appear in personal messages. The function is very simple: just hold down the message and click Translate. The translated text will be displayed immediately below the original. Easy and convenient!

Another new feature is the ability to pin messages, images, or even Reels at the top of the chat. You just need to pin the message and select "Pin". Instagram allows you to pin up to three messages in each dialog.

In addition, you can now schedule messages by holding down the send button. Messages can be scheduled up to 29 days in advance. Finally, Instagram has added the ability to invite people to group chats with a QR code.

All these features are starting to roll out to iOS and Android users around the world today. The web version of the update is still in development but not yet available.

Instagram is actively introducing new features. Recently, the platform started testing a dislike button for comments. It also announced the development of a video editing application similar to CapCut.

The service has increased the maximum length of Reels to three minutes, presumably to compete with TikTok. Instagram has also recently refused to use third-party fact-checkers.
