Indonesia plans to evacuate around 1,000 injured and orphaned Palestinians from Gaza, offering them temporary shelter until their recovery, reports NBC News.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced on Wednesday that the country is ready to provide temporary refuge to Palestinians injured or orphaned during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

"We are ready to evacuate those who are injured or traumatized, and orphans, if they want to be evacuated to Indonesia, and we are ready to send planes to transport them," Subianto said.

He added that he had instructed his foreign minister to immediately coordinate evacuation plans with Palestinian authorities.

Subianto clarified that Indonesia will accept the first group of approximately 1,000 people, who will remain in the country until they have fully recovered and it is safe enough to return to Gaza.

He stressed that this is a temporary measure, not permanent resettlement.

Regional talks and Indonesia's humanitarian stance

Before departing for Abu Dhabi - the first stop in his weeklong Middle East tour - Subianto noted he would discuss the evacuation plan with leaders of Turkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan.

Some of these countries have already accepted Palestinian evacuees for humanitarian reasons.

"This is something complicated; it’s not easy, but I think it encourages the Indonesian government to play a more active role," the president said.

The move follows recent comments by Donald Trump, who again proposed putting Gaza under US control and relocating its population to other countries.

Unlike Trump's controversial resettlement plan, Indonesia is offering temporary humanitarian aid focused on recovery and safe return.

As the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, Indonesia has long been a strong supporter of the Palestinian people.
