Indian cargo vessel sinks off Yemen after being hit by projectile

An Indian cargo vessel capsized and sank off the coast of Yemen after being struck by a projectile. All 14 crew members were rescued, according to a statement by Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal.
The incident occurred near Yemen's territorial waters. The Indian vessel MSV Faize Noore Oliya was struck by a projectile, causing it to capsize and sink.
"India strongly condemns this unprovoked attack on the defenseless mechanised sailing vessel. The safety of our people is our supreme priority & I am relieved to inform that ALL 14 seafarers (including 13 Indians) have been safely rescued by the Yemeni Coast Guard and brought to the Port of Mokha," Sonowal said.
He also instructed the Directorate General of Shipping to take immediate steps to protect seafarers in the region and provide the crew with all necessary assistance.
As previously reported, Yemen's Houthi movement is considering imposing fees on commercial vessels transiting the southern Red Sea.
On July 20, the Iran-backed Houthis announced a maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia. The group said the move was a response to what it described as the long-standing blockade of Yemen.
