India strongly criticized US President Donald Trump after he referred to the country as a “hellhole” in a post, according to The Guardian.

On Wednesday, April 22, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social a transcript of remarks by conservative podcast host Michael Savage. The text criticized the US constitutional right to birthright citizenship.

The post accused Indian immigrants in the tech sector of not hiring US-born white Americans. It also falsely claimed that immigrants from India have poor English skills.

“A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet,” Trump’s post said.

Trump fuels “fire of hatred”

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the remarks were unfounded and inappropriate.

“They certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which has long been based on mutual respect and shared interests,” he stressed.

Congressman Ami Bera, a Democrat whose parents are Indian immigrants, called Trump’s post “offensive, ignorant and beneath the dignity of the office he holds.”

“President Trump, who was born into a wealthy and privileged family, has never had to face the hardships that many immigrant families experience,” he said.

The Hindu American Foundation said it was alarmed by the “hateful, racist screed.”

“Endorsing such rants as the president of the United States will further stoke hatred and endanger our communities, at a time when xenophobia and racism are already at an all-time high,” the statement said.

It is worth noting that global social research shows that the desire of people worldwide to move to the United States has dropped to a new low. Despite this, America remains the most popular destination for migration and residence.

It should also be noted that US migration policy under President Donald Trump has become very strict. In addition to previously approved measures, he has announced plans to significantly tighten the fight against illegal immigration in 2026.
