In Ukraine, traitors will be stripped of state honors: Zelenskyy initiates bill
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament - ed.) consider a bill providing for the stripping of state honors from traitors, according to the Ukrainian head of state.
According to him, the bill proposes amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and other legislative acts regarding the stripping of state honors "for popularizing or propagandizing the aggressor state or committing other unlawful acts against Ukraine."
"This applies to those who have received state honors in Ukraine, including Hero of Ukraine, Order for Merit, and others, but have chosen not Ukraine - they have chosen the enemy and now support Russia in one way or another, or are even on its territory," clarified Zelenskyy.
According to him, Ukraine currently needs a mechanism to deprive such individuals of state honors, as they deserve to be called traitors.
Zelenskyy emphasized that he is requesting the Rada to consider such a bill in the near future.
Scandalous Heroes of Ukraine
Since Ukraine's independence, the title of the Hero of Ukraine has been awarded to controversial figures. These include former Party of Regions member Boris Deich (who passed away in 2022), the rector of the Crimean State Engineering and Pedagogical University Fevzi Yakubov, the director of the Fiolent factory Aleksander Battalin, and others. All these individuals actively supported the Russian occupation of Crimea.
They were awarded the title Hero of Ukraine by former presidents Viktor Yanukovych and Leonid Kuchma.
