Immediately update your iPhone: Apple warns of hacker attacks in 100 countries

Apple has discovered that iPhones in over 100 countries around the world have been targeted in hacking attempts using specialized software, reports technology blog Engadget.
The Cupertino-based company responded quickly by sending users a special notification via email.
Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple Account. The attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it's never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously, Apple informed in their email.
The notification was sent to Apple device owners in 100 countries. The company also advised all users who received the warning to enable Lockdown Mode on their iPhones and update to iOS version 18.4.1, which fixes the vulnerabilities exploited by the spyware.
Since 2021, Apple has regularly notified users at risk of attacks from state-sponsored entities in various countries, so it is most likely that ordinary iPhone users are not in danger. However, it is worth checking your email just in case someone has attempted to spy on you.
Yesterday I got a verified threat notification from Apple stating they detected a mercenary spyware attack against my iPhone.

We’re talking spyware like Pegasus.
All I know for sure right now is that someone is trying to intimidate me.
I have a message for them: It won’t work. pic.twitter.com/mLPVyttFwm
