IDF launches ground operation in northern Gaza to target Hamas regrouping
The Israel Defense Forces have announced a new ground operation aimed at regaining control over northern Gaza and suppressing Hamas militants. The IDF has surrounded the city of Jabalia, which serves as one of the key strongholds for the terrorist group in the northern enclave, informs The Times of Israel.
According to military reports, the 401st and 460th Armored Brigades of the 162nd Division of the Israel Defense Forces conducted an operation overnight, surrounding the city and gathering intelligence on Hamas militants and their infrastructure.
During the operation, airstrikes and artillery shelling were carried out on dozens of targets associated with the group, including weapons depots and tunnels. Reports indicate the deaths of several dozen militants.
The operation is taking place amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began a year ago. As part of the expanded offensive, Israeli forces have also started evacuating civilians from the northern part of Gaza, offering safe corridors for exit along two routes.
The IDF emphasizes that the operation will continue until the complete destruction of the terror infrastructure in the region.
Attack on Israel
On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing more than a thousand people and taking hundreds hostage. In response, Israel launched a military operation against the terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
Later, Hamas released about 120 hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. The UN confirmed instances of sexual violence against women during the attack.
The FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security warned that the first anniversary of the terror attack and tensions in the Middle East could lead to new acts of violence from extremists.
