The International Atomic Energy Agency stated that it has not detected any changes in the radiation situation after the start of the US and Israel military operation against Iran, according to a post by the International Atomic Energy Agency on the social media platform X.

“The IAEA is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East, and urges restraint to avoid any nuclear safety risks to people in the region,” the IAEA said.

The agency added that it is maintaining constant contact with countries in the region and will continue to provide updates on the situation.

Iran’s request for an emergency meeting

The Permanent Mission of Iran to international organizations in Vienna sent a request demanding an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The statement noted that the letter was addressed to Director General Rafael Grossi in connection with events that began on February 28.

Russia’s position

Russia also proposed holding a special meeting of the Board of Governors on March 2, prior to the previously scheduled session.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under the temporary control of Russian forces, is currently connected to only one external power supply line.

Ukraine proposed temporarily suspending Russia’s membership on the IAEA Board of Governors and suggested amending the agency’s statutory documents.
