IAEA Director General goes to Zaporizhzhia NPP to "help prevent nuclear accident"
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, is currently on his way to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), according to Grossi's X social media.
"It’s been two years since we established IAEA support and assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhia to help ensure nuclear safety and security at Europe's largest NPP. I’m on my way to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia NPP to continue our assistance and help prevent a nuclear accident," he wrote.
Further details of his trip are not disclosed at this time.
Situation at ZNPP
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under the control of Russian occupiers since March 3, 2022. The plant is being illegally managed by Russia's "Rosatom" and is currently not producing electricity.
From time to time, Russian forces organize provocations on the territory of ZNPP. They may damage power lines that are critical for the plant's operation or launch strike drones over the facility.
On August 27, Grossi visited the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. After the inspection, he reported a "serious situation" with nuclear safety at the facility.
Later, it became known that the head of the IAEA would also visit Kyiv and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Meanwhile, "Energoatom" stated that the ZNPP, occupied by the enemy, is currently in a zone of increased danger, as it is connected to the Ukrainian power grid by only one power transmission line.
