US leader Donald Trump stated that he was "very much" in charge of Israel’s strike on Iran, according to Trump’s statement during a press conference in the Oval Office.
"Israel attacked first. That attack was very, very powerful. I was very much in charge of that. When Israel attacked Iran first, that was a great day for Israel," said the US president.
Israel’s attacks on Iran
On the night of June 13, the Israel Defense Forces launched an operation against Iran’s nuclear program. The Israeli Air Force struck dozens of targets in Iran, including facilities related to uranium enrichment.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the goal of the operation is to hit "Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, its ballistic missile factories, and military capabilities."
He also said that the operation "will continue as long as necessary" until the objectives are fully achieved.
Later on June 13 and June 14, Israel carried out additional airstrikes on Iranian cities hosting key defense facilities and military bases.
On the same day, June 13, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting, during which Iran officially accused the US of being involved in Israel’s strikes. Washington denied the allegations and urged Tehran to begin negotiations regarding its nuclear program.
Previously, Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian announced the resumption of all nuclear facilities "with greater capacity." He stated that the destruction of buildings and factories "will not create problems."
Pezeshkian also emphasized that Iran does not seek to acquire nuclear weapons, saying they are intended solely for civilian purposes.
