'I don't love sanctions': Trump on easing restrictions against Putin
Donald Trump, a candidate in the US presidential race, has commented on the possibility of easing sanctions against Russia. He said that he is not a supporter of restrictions, according to his interview with Bloomberg.
Journalists asked Trump how he feels about easing sanctions against Russia and its dictator Vladimir Putin as part of a so-called deal to end the war in Ukraine, which he seeks to broker. The former US president said that he does not like sanctions.
"What we’re doing with sanctions is we’re forcing everyone away from us. So I don’t love sanctions. I found them very useful with Iran, but I didn’t even need sanctions with Iran so much," he said.
During his presidency, Donald Trump claimed that he did not consider easing sanctions against Russia. He also imposed sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Specifically, companies providing vessels for the construction of the pipeline were added to the sanctions list.
Trump's stance on Ukraine
Former US President Donald Trump has officially become the Republican Party's candidate for the upcoming presidential election, scheduled for November 2024.
Trump's stance on the war in Ukraine is ambiguous. He claims he could end the war before even taking office in the White House and criticizes Joe Biden's administration.
At the same time, Trump opposes increasing aid to Ukraine. In his view, aid should be provided in the form of loans, not as gifts.
