US President Donald Trump declined to clearly state his position on negotiations over a new nuclear deal with Iran, according to CNN.

“I think they’re going OK,” Trump said Saturday while en route to Miami. “Nothing matters until you get it done. So, I don’t like talking about it. But it’s going OK. The Iran situation is going pretty good, I think.”

Sources involved in the talks told CNN that the Trump administration is seeking to act quickly. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for April 19.

US-Iran nuclear deal

After taking office, President Donald Trump aimed to establish a new nuclear agreement with Iran and made a formal offer to the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In case of refusal, the US president reportedly threatened heavy strikes on Iran, including its nuclear facilities. Tehran warned that any attack would drag the US into a broader Middle East conflict.

On Saturday, Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, held the first round of indirect talks with the Iranian side in Muscat, Oman.

The White House assessed the negotiations positively.
