Hungary does not support the conclusions of the European Council on Ukraine, as they "contradict Hungary's position and interests," Bóka János, Minister for European Union Affairs of Hungary reports.

"Hungary cannot support the EU council conclusions on Ukraine in the current form: contradicts the Hungarian position and the Hungarian national interests on several strategic points, and calls to further accelerate the Ukrainian accession process," Bóka stated.

The Minister added that it is unlikely the EU will reach a consensus among all members and that a "scenario similar to March 6" is likely to be repeated.

Commenting on Ukraine's EU integration, Bóka said that the future of the enlargement process "is in the hands of Hungarian citizens."

"They will have the opportunity to express their position during national consultations initiated by the Hungarian government. We are expecting the results by summer," Bóka added.

EU Summit on March 20

On March 20, European Union leaders will gather for another summit in Brussels to discuss competitiveness as well as the latest developments regarding Ukraine and the next steps in defense matters.

European Council President António Costa also announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will speak at the summit, but did not specify the format.

In addition, according to media reports, the EU recently proposed the creation of a fund to send military aid to Ukraine, with amounts ranging from 20 to 40 billion euros, which would operate on a voluntary participation basis. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the aid has broad political support, but there are still many details to be worked out.
