Hungary sets conditions for Orban-Zelenskyy meeting
The meeting between the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will take place only after Kyiv fulfills Budapest's conditions, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto.
At the same time, he mentioned that there is still a long way to go before the leaders of the two countries meet.
According to him, if Ukraine fulfills Hungary's conditions, it will create a "clean slate" in bilateral relations and allow for a high-level meeting.
Szijjarto's visit to Uzhhorod
On January 29, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, visited Uzhhorod, where he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, and the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak. Officials noted that the negotiations would focus on the normalization of Ukrainian-Hungarian relations.
Szijjarto stated that the meeting between the Hungarian Prime Minister and the Ukrainian President would make sense if it could yield results.
Hungary's demands on Ukraine usually concern the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia.
Earlier, the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Ihor Zhovkva, stated that Ukraine had adopted a framework law on national minorities in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission. Subsequently, at the request of the Venice Commission, all recommendations were implemented, except for one.
