Hungary continues to block approval of final statement of EU summit
Hungary, as before, is blocking issues related to Ukraine's accession to the EU, according to the page of Radio Liberty's European Editor, Richard Jozwiak.
According to the editor, EU ambassadors met all day in Brussels. Hungary is blocking all issues related to Ukraine.
"EU ambassadors met all day today (Sun) in Brussels. No movement as Hungary still blocks everything related to Ukraine. If it is solved, it will be solved at the EU summit on 14-15 Dec." - the editor wrote.
Ukraine's accession to the EU
In early November, the European Commission recommended starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. However, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that his country opposes this step.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban urged EU leaders not to discuss the issue of Ukraine's accession to the bloc at the upcoming summit. He also stated that he is ready to block the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine's European integration at the EU summit scheduled for December 14-15.
Yesterday, on December 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen ahead of the EU summit.
