Hungary blocks EU plan for security guarantees and military aid to Ukraine – Politico

Hungary blocked the EU draft document. It provided for security guarantees for Ukraine and a new military aid package, Politico reports.
At a meeting of EU ambassadors on Friday, Hungary blocked the draft text concerning Ukraine, which included wording on security guarantees that the European Union could provide to Kyiv, as well as a new military aid package.
This decision became part of a broader divide among EU countries regarding their approach to supporting Ukraine amid the war.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, for his part, stated that his country would refuse further financial or military aid to Ukraine.
Fico also dismissed the so-called West’s “peace through strength”, which, in his opinion, is an unrealistic policy.
The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently sent a letter to European Council President António Costa, in which he called for direct negotiations between the EU and Russia to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Orbán also proposed blocking the adoption of the European Council’s conclusions on Ukraine.
In addition, Slovakia will introduce strict measures against Ukraine if the issue of gas transit through the country is not resolved.
As Reuters reported, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico accused Kyiv of causing harm by not extending the agreement with Russia on gas transportation through Ukraine.
