Ukraine and Hungary are opening a new chapter in relations between their parliaments. The two sides have agreed to strengthen cooperation based on mutual respect and good neighborly relations, Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
During their first meeting in Rome, Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk and Speaker of Hungary's National Assembly Ágnes Forsthoffer discussed their shared history and current challenges.
Ruslan Stefanchuk congratulated his counterpart on her election to the position and emphasized the importance of a shared European future.
The two sides paid particular attention to the historical tragedies experienced by both nations, which suffered from violence inflicted by Moscow.
The Ukrainian Parliament Speaker told his Hungarian counterpart about the consequences of Russian aggression and the work of Ukraine's parliament during the war.
"I am grateful for the confirmation of continued support for Ukraine, including humanitarian assistance and our progress toward the European Union," Stefanchuk said.
For her part, Ágnes Forsthoffer confirmed Hungary's willingness to continue helping Ukrainians.
The politicians discussed specific measures to strengthen interparliamentary dialogue and exchanged invitations to make official visits to each other's capitals.
Ukraine's European integration process continues to move forward.
In October 2026, Hungary gave the green light to Ukraine's EU accession negotiations in two additional key clusters. This decision allowed Ukraine to make significant progress toward EU membership.
Just a few days later, it became known that Ukraine had officially opened two more areas of negotiations with the EU.
These are the "Internal Market and Competitiveness" and "Inclusive Growth" clusters, which expand opportunities to align Ukrainian legislation and the economy with European standards.
