Hungary backs Germany's new plan to counter Russian hybrid threats

Hungary has offered to help Germany counter hybrid threats originating from Russia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán said.
The Hungarian foreign minister emphasized that Budapest is deeply concerned about the growing number and intensity of Russian hybrid activities across Europe.
According to her, the recent incidents in Germany are evidence of an increasingly dangerous and reckless pattern of behavior that poses a serious threat to European security and resilience.
"Hungary stands in full solidarity with Germany and is ready to support our partner in countering hybrid threats," the Hungarian foreign minister said.
She also stressed that amid these challenges, strengthening the resilience, unity, and collective preparedness of the European Union and NATO is more important than ever.
Tensions between Germany and Russia escalate
On September 1, Germany officially accused Russia of a hybrid attack involving drones at Leipzig Airport.
In response, Berlin decided to close the Russian consulate in Bonn and terminate the agreement concerning the Russian House.
The Russian ambassador was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry over the attack.
German authorities adopted a plan under which they will expand the list of individuals subject to special monitoring in connection with hybrid threats.
Germany will also propose new EU sanctions lists targeting Russians involved in organizing and carrying out similar hybrid attacks in European countries.
Moreover, Berlin promised to provide Ukraine with additional missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems and several thousand attack drones.
Amid the latest developments, Russian authorities issued new threats against Germany.
