Explosive-laden drone found near Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig Airport

Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany suspended operations overnight on August 5 after a suspicious object was found near the runway, Bild reports.
According to Bild, the suspicious object was located in the immediate vicinity of a Ukrainian An-124 cargo aircraft.
According to broadcasters NDR and WDR, as well as the newspaper SZ, the object found was believed to be a modified drone. Police said the drone had an "unknown substance" attached to it, which may have been an explosive with a detonator inside.
After the discovery, bomb disposal experts were expected to carry out a controlled detonation of the drone using a robot. Police are not ruling out sabotage. A search for the drone's operator is underway, and the airport's southern runway remains closed.
Several flights were diverted to other airports because of the overnight incident.
Earlier, a damaged drone marked with the Cyrillic letter "Ы" was found on the coast of Türkiye. Explosives were discovered inside during an inspection.
