The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Péter Szijjártó disclosed details of the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba. According to Szijjártó's Facebook, Ukrainian Foreign Minister complained about the decision of the European Commission regarding Ukraine.

It is reported that during the negotiations, the Eurointegration ambitions of Ukraine were discussed.

According to the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he assured Kuleba that for Hungary, "this is not a tactical issue but a decision that has historical significance for the future of the European Union as a whole."

"The proposal for making a decision is not prepared, and the European Commission practically does not present what impact Ukraine's membership in the EU will have on the entire community. It is enough to recall the unresolved problems caused by previous decisions of the European Commission regarding grain transit or the lifting of licensing for Ukrainian trucks," the minister wrote.

In his opinion, the European Commission did not conduct the necessary preparatory work to guarantee mutually beneficial negotiations on EU accession for Ukraine.

Szijjártó also added that he discussed the law on national minorities with Kuleba.

"It is undeniable that we both maintain commitment to the further development of bilateral relations," concluded the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Background

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, commented on the meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, earlier. According to the Ukrainian official, during the meeting, the main topic was Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

It is worth noting that Hungary plans to block the start of EU accession negotiations with Ukraine as it does not want our country to become a member of the bloc until the end of the war with Russia.
