Hungary may have launched its reconnaissance drones over Ukraine. They were likely monitoring Ukraine’s defense industry, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

According to the President, he held a military meeting with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa.

Hungarian drone incident

In particular, Syrskyi reported on recent incidents with drones on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.

"Ukrainian forces recorded violations of our airspace by reconnaissance drones, which are likely Hungarian. Preliminary assessments suggest they may have been conducting reconnaissance on the industrial potential of Ukraine’s border areas," the President said.

He instructed officials to verify all the information and immediately report on each recorded incident.

Counteroffensive near Dobropillia

Zelenskyy also said that the situation on the front line was discussed at the meeting, with key attention paid to the Dobropillia operation. As of today, Ukrainian forces have liberated 168.8 square kilometers of territory. An additional 187.7 square kilometers have been cleared of Russian saboteurs.

Russian losses in this operation alone amount to nearly 3,000 soldiers, most of them killed. Work is also underway to expand the prisoner exchange fund.

Separate reports were presented on the situation in Kupiansk and its district, as well as Ukrainian actions in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.

Destruction of Su-34

Syrskyi reported to the President about the destruction of a Russian Su-34 bomber in the Zaporizhzhia region, which the enemy had used to strike Zaporizhzhia and other cities and villages.

The head of state assured that Ukraine will continue to destroy Russian military aircraft in response to attacks on peaceful cities.

He also noted that work is ongoing to further strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

Hungarian spies in Zakarpattia

On May 9, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed Hungarian intelligence agents for the first time.

The Hungarian intelligence operatives were tasked with gathering information on the security of Zakarpattia region, identifying weaknesses in its ground and air defenses, and assessing the views of local residents, particularly to predict their behavior in the event of a Hungarian military invasion.
