How to store dairy products in extreme heat: Expert's advice
Dairy products require special storage because they spoil quickly and can cause not only digestive issues but also poisoning and other gastrointestinal infections.
Family doctor Kateryna Pinchuk shared how to do it correctly, so the products not only don't spoil but also retain their beneficial properties.
Storing dairy in hot weather
- Check the expiration date on the packaging and consume dairy products before it expires.
- Store in the refrigerator at a temperature between 2 and 6 °C. This helps slow the growth of bacteria and keep the products fresh.
- Yogurt, and cheese: store in the original packaging. Do not leave a spoon in the yogurt or cheese to prevent bacteria from getting in.
- Milk: store on the central shelf of the refrigerator, not in the door.
- Keep different types of dairy products separate to avoid mixing odors and contamination.
Benefits of fermented dairy products
Fermented dairy products, such as yogurts, kefir, whey, and kefir, are an important component of a healthy diet with many beneficial properties:
Supporting healthy gut microflora
Fermented dairy products contain probiotics (live microorganisms) that help maintain and restore healthy gut microflora. This is important for strengthening the immune system and maintaining gastrointestinal health.
Rich in nutrients
Fermented dairy products contain vitamins (particularly B vitamins) and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. These substances are vital for maintaining the health of bones, muscles, and other organs.
Improving digestive function
The enzymes in fermented dairy products aid in better digestion and improve the absorption of nutrients.
Reducing disease risk
Regular consumption of fermented dairy products helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
Supporting skin health
Probiotics and vitamins in fermented dairy products can improve the condition of the skin and hair.
