Kurakhove under siege: Civilians stay despite devastation
Nearly 300 civilians remain in the Kurakhove community, including 800 in the city itself, Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reports.
According to Filashkin, around 800 civilians remain in the city of Kurakhove, and they do not wish to evacuate. They have stocked up on food and medical supplies.
"They are in basements. The enemy has completely destroyed about 70 percent of the city," Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration stated.
As the reports inform, approximately 750 people remain in Toretsk, while 304 residents still stay in Chasiv Yar. These areas are experiencing difficulties in receiving humanitarian aid.
Filashkin also noted that 106 frontline settlements in the Donetsk region currently have no electricity, gas, or water. The rest of the region is ready for the heating season.
Situation near Kurakhove
The situation near Kurakhove in the Donetsk region has significantly worsened recently.
Military-political analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko previously suggested that the Ukrainian Armed Forces might be forced to leave Kurakhove, but this would result in the severe depletion of Russian military forces.
At the same time, a military expert and former officer of the Security Service of Ukraine, Ivan Stupak, predicts that Russian forces could capture Kurakhove in the near future – perhaps before Donald Trump's inauguration as the US president, or even sooner. According to the latest reports, the town is already 50-60% encircled.
