American actress Cameron Diaz revealed her favorite savory oatmeal recipe. Instead of sugar, it features vegetables, protein, and a Japanese sauce, delivering a surprisingly flavorful combination, reports Eating Well.
Cameron Diaz's favorite oatmeal recipe
Ingredients (for 1–2 servings):
- Oats – ½ cup
- Chicken broth – ½ cup
- Water – ½ cup
- Olive oil or butter – 1 tbsp
- Greens – spinach, kale, or any of your choice
- Leek – 1
- Egg – 1
- Ponzu sauce (citrus-soy sauce)
- Salt and pepper – to taste
Instructions:
In a pot, combine the chicken broth and water (½ cup each) and bring to a boil. Add the oats to the boiling liquid and cook until al dente. The oats should not be overcooked.
In a pan, heat olive oil or butter and add the chopped leek. Then add the greens and cook for a few more minutes until they soften and shrink down.
Cook the egg to your liking (for example, boiled, poached, or fried). Once the oatmeal is cooked, take it off the heat, stir in a little butter, and mix well.
Top the oatmeal with the sautéed vegetables and the egg. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle a few drops of ponzu sauce on top for a citrus-soy note.

Health benefits
Greens like spinach and kale can help lower blood pressure, improve digestion, and support bone strength.
Eggs are packed with protein, making them a great choice for breakfast.
Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats that support heart health. A small amount of fat also helps absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).
"I make a really great breakfast. Breakfasts are really good. I do a really awesome oatmeal—a savory oatmeal," Diaz says.
