Homemade kombucha: Recipe of youth elixir
Kombucha, the fizzy, tangy-sweet elixir brewed from tea, is gaining traction as a healthful beverage. Its main ingredients, including yeast, sugar, and black tea, ferment to create the base of this trendy drink. While undeniably beneficial, it doesn't come cheap on store shelves.
But it's not hard to make it at home, according to Daryna Doroshkevych.
Homemade kombucha
The essential ingredient is a kombucha scoby, the cornerstone of this brew.
Then take 100-150g of sugar, a three-liter jar, and tea. Opt for unflavored, large-leaf green tea for the best results (you'll need 1.5-2 tablespoons).
Step-by-step directions:
In your three-liter jar, combine sugar, tea, and fill it with boiled water almost completely. Once the tea cools to room temperature, introduce the kombucha scoby. Seal with a lid and let it sit undisturbed for 3-4 days.
Once fermented, strain the brew, bottle it, and keep in the refrigerator. Meanwhile, you can start a new batch of kombucha.
Tip: Feel free to experiment by adding berries or other juices to your brew for added flavor.
