Ukrainian tennis has achieved a unique milestone at a tournament in France. Marta Kostyuk and rising star Veronika Podrez will face off in the final of the WTA 250 event in Rouen, marking the first all-Ukrainian clash at this level in history.

Kostyuk's dominant run to final

Top seed Marta Kostyuk lived up to her favorite status, leaving Germany's Tatjana Maria with no chance.

The match lasted exactly 60 minutes and ended in a convincing two-set victory for the Ukrainian.

The opening was competitive, but at 2:2, Kostyuk seized control. After taking the first set 6:3, she dominated the second, handing her opponent a "bagel" — 6:0.

The stats highlight her dominance: she won 74% of points on her serve and was highly effective on return.

This will be Kostyuk's fifth WTA final and her second this season. She previously competed for a title in Brisbane and claimed her only trophy so far last year in Austin.

Remarkable debut for 19-year-old Veronika Podrez

The biggest surprise of the Rouen tournament has been the performance of 19-year-old Veronika Podrez. Competing in her first event at this level, she has already reached the final.

Her semifinal opponent, experienced Romanian Sorana Cîrstea, withdrew before the match began.

The second seed pulled out due to a left leg injury. As a result, Podrez advanced to the final by default, becoming the youngest Ukrainian to achieve this feat on debut at such a tournament.

Historic Ukrainian derby: Match date

For the first time in history, two Ukrainian players will compete for a WTA title.

Previously, Ukrainian tennis players had never faced each other in a WTA final.

The decisive match between Marta Kostyuk and Veronika Podrez is scheduled for Sunday, April 19.

In addition to the prestigious trophy, the players will compete for ranking points and prize money at the Rouen tournament.

Earlier, the media reported that Ukraine would field a record number of players at Roland-Garros.
