Historical names in Crimean Tatar language to be restored in Crimea - Ministry of Reintegration
Ukraine plans to restore historical names in Crimean Tatar language in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, according to the press service of the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.
As reported, this was discussed at a meeting of the National Commission on Crimean Tatar Language Issues on November 22.
The Crimean Tatar language will be used to designate toponyms with Turkic origins or historical names. The preparation of this decision is in line with the Law on Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Politics in Ukraine and the decolonization of toponymy.
Currently, mechanisms are being coordinated to enable the use of toponym writing with Latin graphics in the media and scientific works. Names will also be changed on road signs and maps.
Communications with operators of cartographic services and services that maintain such signs will be conducted for this purpose.
The National Commission has instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop the relevant decision. The Ministry of Infrastructure, together with the Ministry of Reintegration, the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, and the Institute of National Memory will be responsible for this matter.
