Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will be invited to the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, however, Brazil may arrest him on an International Criminal Court warrant, says President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

He clarifies that Putin will be invited to the G20 summit next year in Rio de Janeiro, but he will have to "assess the consequences" of such a visit.

"If Putin comes to the G20 meeting in Brazil, he knows what might happen," says Lula.

In March, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin and Ombudswoman Maria Lvova-Belova over the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. Thus, all countries that ratified the Rome Statute are required to arrest the Russian dictator if he visits their states.

Lula da Silva previously stated that Brazil's judicial system would decide whether to arrest Russian dictator Vladimir Putin if he attends the G20 summit in the country next year.

In September, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dino, mentioned that Brazil was considering the possibility of withdrawing from the International Criminal Court.
