Hezbollah ready to strike Israel independently of Iran - CNN
Hezbollah may strike Israel independently of Iran's intentions, with an attack possible in the coming days, according to CNN.
One source says that the militant group based in Lebanon is moving faster than Iran in its planning and aims to strike Israel soon. Tehran, meanwhile, is likely still formulating its response.
"Iran had made some, but not all, of the preparations that the US would expect to see in advance of a major attack on Israel," says an anonymous American military official.
A second source added that given Lebanon's proximity to Israel as its immediate northern neighbor, Hezbollah could act with virtually no warning, unlike Iran.
The source noted that it's unclear how Iran and Hezbollah are coordinating their actions regarding a potential attack, or if they are coordinating at all. There's a sense among officials that the two may not fully align in their approach moving forward.
Potential attacks by Hezbollah and Iran on Israel are expected to be in retaliation for the killing of senior Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr in Lebanon, as well as Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in these incidents.
However, according to The Washington Post, after the killing of the Hamas leader, Israel immediately informed the US that it was responsible for the action.
Previously, it was reported that Iran appeared to reconsider its decision to launch a military attack on Israel. Nonetheless, the US still anticipates some form of reaction from Tehran to the killing of the Hamas leader.
