Helsinki to provide Ukraine with aid worth nearly €80,000
The official website of the Council reports that the Helsinki City Council approved a donation of movable property valued at €77,000 to Ukraine on November 11, 2024.
Since the beginning of the war, Helsinki has been actively supporting Ukrainian cities affected by Russia's war. To help alleviate the impact, various city departments have allocated materials and equipment, which will now be sent to Ukraine. The donation includes used vehicles and other useful equipment amid ongoing needs.
"The need for help in Ukraine affects all areas of society. Sending concrete aid to Ukraine is at the same time a firm message of our commitment to cooperation with Ukrainians," commented Helsinki Mayor Juhana Vartiainen.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Helsinki has also provided support for Ukrainians who have arrived in Finland as well as those remaining in Ukraine.
The rescue department of the Ministry of the Interior coordinates Finland's civil aid to Ukraine through the rescue service mechanism of the European Union. As with previous Helsinki donations, the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for delivering the materials to Ukraine.
Finland's support for Ukraine
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war, Finland has been actively providing Kyiv with humanitarian, financial, and military-technical assistance.
In April 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Alexander Stubb signed the bilateral security commitments to solidify long-term support from Helsinki and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Later, in September, Finland also announced a new aid package for Ukraine valued at €118 million.
