Scalp peels may become a key to thicker hair. By cleansing and activating hair follicles, they can indirectly stimulate hair growth, according to trichologist and rehabilitation specialist Oksana Varlamova.
How scalp peels boost hair growth
The doctor says the skin is the largest organ in the human body and performs many functions. The scalp creates the environment in which hair grows.
A scalp peel is not just a cleansing step but a physiologically important part of hair care, including:
- Removal of excess sebum and metabolic waste
- Cleansing of styling product residue and dead skin cells
- Restoration of normal gas exchange
- Preparation of the skin for the penetration of active ingredients (especially when hair growth serums or biorevitalizing treatments are used)
Without proper cleansing, the effectiveness of hair growth–stimulating products is significantly reduced.
The peels:
- Activate regenerative processes
- Stimulate fibroblast activity
- Improve microcirculation
- Form the healthier dermal and vascular structure
This creates optimal conditions for growing stronger, denser, and higher-quality hair.
"Therefore, I begin almost every hair growth stimulation protocol with a deep peel. This is a step that should not be skipped if you want real results rather than a temporary effect," the doctor noted.
How to peel your skin
Preparation. According to WebMD, hair should be damp before the procedure. Part it into sections to reach the scalp.
Applying the product. Apply a product containing acids (such as salicylic acid or AHAs). Leave it on for the time specified in the instructions (usually a few minutes). There is no need to rub.
Such products dissolve the bonds between skin cells, cleansing without mechanical friction.
Rinsing. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use shampoo, then conditioner.
Frequency. It should be used once a week, at most twice. More frequent use is not recommended, as the skin may respond by producing more oil.
