Healthy eating - Right food combinations to boost digestion

The proper combination of foods is an important aspect of healthy eating that can significantly improve digestion and nutrient absorption. There are simple rules that help avoid overloading the digestive system.
Nutritionist, health coach, and founder of the Mindful Eating school, Kateryna Krupkina, spoke about this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
How to combine foods correctly
It is important that every meal contains all the necessary nutrients, including:
- Carbohydrates – a source of quality energy
- Fats – essential for hormone production, satiety, and healthy skin
- Protein – contributes to the building of all organs
- Fiber – supports gut function and proper digestion and provides vitamins and minerals
"People tend to exclude certain foods and try to ‘cleanse’ their diet because of past trends promoting orthorexic thinking. But you shouldn't eliminate your favorite foods. Instead, you should expand your diet and make it more diverse," Krupkina noted.
For example, half of the plate should consist of vegetables or fruits, one-quarter should be carbohydrates (such as potatoes, pasta, whole grains, or legumes), and one-quarter should contain protein with a small amount of fat.
It may contain too much fat if the plate already includes nuts, seeds, egg yolks, cheese, or avocado. While healthy, fats should be consumed in moderation.
Should you plan your meals
The expert explained that it depends on your lifestyle. If you have a busy schedule and little free time, meal planning is recommended.
"You can prepare meals in advance, for example, cook for three days ahead at home. Vegetables can be pre-cut, roasted, or made into a vegetable sauce that lasts long and is very tasty. This way, assembling a balanced plate will take only two minutes," Krupkina advised.
