Head of European Commission to visit Ukraine tomorrow
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Ukraine on Friday, September 20. During the visit, she will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, BFM TV reports.
According to her, the key topic of discussion will be the European Union's assistance in providing Ukraine with energy resources for the coming winter.
Amid fears expressed by the International Energy Agency, Ukraine will face the most serious challenges in the field of energy supply since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The EU plans to support Kyiv in addressing these challenges.
EU assistance to Ukraine
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the European Union has imposed more than 10 packages of economic sanctions against Russia and Belarus. In addition, some EU countries provide military assistance to Ukraine, some of which is funded by the European Union. Special funds have also been created to support Ukraine.
Last year, the EU initiated a program to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with artillery ammunition, intending to deliver one million shells by March 2024. However, deliveries have been delayed - by the end of August, the EU had provided Ukraine with 700,000 of the promised million.
