US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports of Russia testing its nuclear-powered cruise missile, Burevestnik, and criticized Vladimir Putin for boasting about new weapons, according to CNN.
During a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump said the United States also possesses a powerful nuclear arsenal, including nuclear submarines positioned near Russian shores.
"They know we have a nuclear submarine, the greatest in the world, right off their shore. So I mean, it doesn't have to go 8,000 miles, and they’re not playing games with us; we're not playing games with them either. We test missiles all the time," Trump said.
The American leader also expressed surprise that Putin would boast about missile tests amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
"I don’t think it's an appropriate thing for Putin to be saying either, by the way. He ought to get the war ended, a war that should have taken one week is now in its fourth year; that's what he ought to do instead of testing missiles," Trump emphasized.
Putin's Burevestnik
Yesterday, Russian leader Vladimir Putin visited a command post of the joint military group, where the main topic was a report on the allegedly successful tests of the nuclear-powered missile Burevestnik.
The missile is another long-term Russian project, with development at OKB Novator starting back in December 2001, and the project was only officially announced in 2018.
