'He chose path of warrior' - World kickboxing champion Serhii Lysiuk died in war

Serhii Lysiuk was an honored sports master of Ukraine, a multiple-time champion of Europe and the world. He also shared his experience with the younger generation, working as a lecturer in the Department of Physical Training at the State Penitentiary Service Academy.

The fighter defended his country on the Donetsk front. On November 12 of this year, while carrying out a combat mission in one of the hottest spots in the Donbas region, he detonated a mine. Despite doctors amputating his leg, they were unable to save the life of the renowned athlete and defender, as reported by the faculty of physical education at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where Lysiuk graduated as a kickboxer.

Doctors in Dnipro fought for about 10 days to save the life of the titled athlete and defender, but the injuries proved too severe.

Before the full-scale war with Russia, in December 2021, Serhii Lysyuk participated in the charitable project "Marathon in New York, which no one wants to run," where participants covered the distance in the village of New York in the Donetsk region, located near the front line.

After Russia's invasion in February 2022, the athlete headed to the front as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Troop Operational Command. He carried out combat missions on the Donetsk front.

"Honored sports master, multiple world kickboxing champion Serhiy Lysiuk. Standing ovations echoed in the halls of many European cities for him. Of course, he could have avoided the hell of war. But he chose to go - he chose the path of a warrior," wrote Volodymyr Luchko about him.
