Harry Potter star dies
The famous actress Maggie Smith, known to many as the performer of the role of Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series, has died. The star died in hospital, she was 89 years old.
When Maggie Smith died
The death of the actress was announced in a joint statement of her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, released by publicist Claire Dobbs.
They noted that their mother spent the last days of her life in the hospital. However, her family and friends were by her side.
"She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September. An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother," her sons stated.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days. We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time," they added.
There is no information on what caused the actress' death and whether she suffered from a disease.

Her first theatre role was in a production of Twelfth Night, where she played Viola.
